From Your Principal's Office

Letter From the Principal:

Dear Blue community,

Thank you Buena Vista and Enderly Heights Elementary for welcoming me into your school and your community.

I look forward to working together to help our students achieve greater heights.  I hope this letter will allow you to get to know a little bit about me until we have the opportunity to meet in person.

I grew up in nearby Alleghany County but have lived in Rockbridge County for 9 years. I married a local girl and we settled down with our three children.  I went to college at VMI (Rah Virginia Mil) and was an officer in the United States Army. I began a career in education later in life than some and started out my career in Roanoke City Public Schools.  After earning my degree in administration, I accepted a job in Alleghany County Public Schools and worked as an assistant principal at Mountain View Elementary School for 4 years.

I am excited to join Buena Vista City Public Schools, and I’m looking forward to growing together. Together, we can make a great team.

I still am a bit of a kid at heart, so you may see me in a duck costume or some other outfit to promote students having fun while they are learning. I view success in education through many different lenses, and I promise that we will work together to create a fulfilling educational environment that will help our students grow into well-rounded and responsible citizens.

I hope to achieve these goals through a variety of learning methods and plan to include many hands-on experiences to show students how what we learn in class may apply in our daily lives.

Very Respectfully,

Devan Nicely
Principal Enderly Heights
